In the mid-1800s, John Tobin, my maternal grandfather’s grandfather, left Cork, Ireland for the Canadian province of Newfoundland-Labrador prior to settling in Empire, Michigan – a village in stunningly beautiful Leelanau County where generations of Tobins have lived. My grandfather and his brothers built the cabin across from Little Glen Lake where my mother, Marjorie Tobin, grew up. Although born and raised in metropolitan Detroit, I have many fond memories of visiting my grandparents in Leelanau County, including challenging my grandfather at checkers. As a great lover of games, he would have been captivated by MATCHING MEMORIES CARD GAME – Leelanau County!

My history with Leelanau County began in the1970s. Also, a native of metropolitan Detroit, I often came north to visit my sister. I have many happy memories of enjoying the region with my sister’s family and adventurously exploring nature with my little nieces. This was years before I met Mike. Although we met in the Detroit area, we both had developed strong ties to Leelanau. One of our special memories as a couple was when Mike proposed to me on the banks of Little Glen Lake on the Tobin homestead. We now share the homestead with our children as we continue to make many lasting memories. I have never fallen out of love with the peaceful nature and beauty of Leelanau County.
